I want to help you
You said you wanted make a Magnifying Glass Property, but I don't know what program you using.
If you use 3d max, let's use raytrace material. - Press M to open Material Editer - Choose Get Material>Raytrace - Set transparency to white - Adjust Index of Refr Cheer |

Yep, a smiley. SO WHAT!?

A nice method I saw once was to use a camera attached to the underside of the magnifing glass object, tha camera must have a nice zoom, then you map the output of the camera to the lens and you´re done. it doesn´t give you the correct optical simulation of a raytraced material but it´s much easier on your rendering times!
