The tutorials that ship with 3d max (located on the help menu) has a fairly easy learning curve. And takes u trough most of the basic stuff of the program. Good place to start.

The vert moving thing u mentioned It will come. Its only a matter of practice.

As H2O suggests, it's a pretty good idea to start off with the standard 3dsmax tutorials. Even though they are pretty boring, you quickly learn the basics of the program.

When you need some some challenging tutorials, her's a great collection of tutorial-links: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21263

Enjoy.

Well... you don't have to go through all the tutorials. Just pick the ones that could help you with the things you need to know more about.
Spend a week on the tutorials, and start working on your own project.

There's no way that you can learn all the tools in Max in 30 days, and still have time to work on your own project. That's just a fact you have to accept.

If your goal is to be able to model sertain things... read a modelling tutorial. If your goal is to able to animate objects, read an animation tutorial... and so on...

True, it does cost.
If you like 3d max, there is a variation of it avaiable for free called gmax. It does not have the same abilitys as 3dmax, but it is basically the same program. Its more aimed toward game content development. But its basically 3dmax "mini"
And then u have Maya. There is a personal learning edition available for free. There are some limitations to this realease aswell, but as far as i know most of the functionality is intact.

There are also free 3d software packages available for download. Wings being one of my favorites.
Have a look at this treadfree 3d appz

Keep at it. 3d is loads of fun.

Heh Heh ,
I've already talked about this on another thread but I thought it would help here too.

Are you a student? If you are, why don't you try buying 3ds Max at an educational online store? www.academicsuperstore.com is a good one.
I got 3ds Max 6 there for $547 dollars!
When you buy something educationaly, your basically saying that this software is for educational use only and I will not sell anything I make.
I know $547 is still a lot of money but it is a lot better than paying $3500!

Hope this helped.

wow by far much better that there is hope for me....tho im not student and for now the program is for learning only..one other thing i called the comepany and they said 3d max 5 and 6 is unavailable for trial or to buy...they said once a new version comes out they no longer offer the older version...do they make an exception for students? and does one have to prove being a student?

lol

I'm sorry, I got 3ds max 6 from www.studica.com. .My mistake.

I just checked there though and it seems that they aren't selling 3ds max 6 anymore also. I recommend getting 3ds max 7 anyway since it's the newest version. I think its $569 on studica after the rebate.

Yes, you do have to prove the you are a student.
I sent my class schedule in to prove that I was a student.

Since you're not a student, I can't really help though. I'm sorry.
