Spline Cage questions

This is my 2nd day working with 3d models, I took a spline cage tutorial to make a little ship thing, but all I have is the basic lines, How do I make it 3d.. I tried Lathe but that just messes it up, I look through all of the Patch/Spline editing tools, I cant find 1 that would help... here are some pics.

Lathe on X axis

Y axis

Z axis

EDIT

I have tried to use Attach tool in the Geometry section of Edit Spline, But I dont understand how to use it.

4 vertices, then surface. Simple right. You need to have the spline cage to be connected creating 4 vertices. Then add asurface modifier. the other modifiers you were trying to use do not work the way you were tring to use them as. Also if this is you second day I would recommend working with edit poly and getting to know the software more.

It is very addictive, I have learned the basics(so i thought) i guess i will keep lookin around for more tutorials.. I think i will start on Box modelling.
