3D Studio Max: Bump Mapping

Can anyone help me with bump mapping? I need to add some model logos to a car and I'd like to bump map them, but I basically have no clue how to do it. I understand that I'd need to use white text with a black background to make the text raised, but I dont know how to apply the image to a specific point on the car, how to set it to bump map, or anything else like that. Any help is much appreciated
