Problem with the X and Y Axies (3dsMAX)

Hi guys,

When I try to rescale, Move and Rotate an object the X and Y axies tool is red and can't be used. this has never happen to me before. it used to be two multi-coloured lines and a box in the middle. I'm sure you all know what i'm talking about.

How do I get it back tho the way it was?

to bring back your gizmo press "X"
as to other question use cut tool to create new edges and thereby new verts.....
