Best to learn: Maya or 3dmax?
Hi, i want to start learning Maya or 3dmax, but i dont know which one, i already kinda started with 3dmax, but im not that great with it yet.
Any advice? what would you chose? 3dmax or maya? |

I think 3dsmax or XSI. why?
more intuitive interface, easy learn and practice polymodeling, NOt jungle of bottoms etc... well thats my opinion. cya |

Ultimately the tool you choose is just that - the tool. Using a certain program isn't going to make you a brilliant modeler just like that.
Maya have a free personal learning edition. Download that and compare it to your experience with Max, and see which you prefer. ![]() |

My personal opinion is that 3ds Max is best all around, many would disagree with me. If you're looking for something good to start out with, I think Max has the best layout and most intuitive user environment. This makes it easier to learn.

Being both a Max user and a Maya user, I think they both have their benefits and both have their faults. Personally I prefer Maya. It seems like a better thought out program to me. Now, you most likely will be able to find more MAX resources online, but theres still plenty of Maya training available.
Also, do you want to get into Games or Movies someday (assuming you get really good). Max rules the market for games(currently) while Maya dominates film. Every film studio from Pixar to Weta uses Maya in some form or another. In the end, it's just a tool to get what you want from your head to your computer. |
