speed modelling challenge week 29 - pedal power
The "rules" are simple,
1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. 2, spend no longer than the specified time on the modelling stages then render the image. 3, Post the image here along with your details, software used, time spent etc. Please post only one image per entry with a maximum file size of 100k and with the maximum dimensions of 800x600. This image should include at least one wire frame view of your finished model. Posts with multiple renders of the same object will be deleted. 4, time spent on rendering or texturing is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure" 5, if your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable 6, no cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. 7, No limit to the number of entries each person is allowed as long as each one is a completely new model and not one that utilises bits of previous entries 8, No external links to pictures, they must be attached using the browse button and be no larger than 800x600 pixels and 100k. Any pictures larger than this or links will be removed as soon as we see them and the poster will be disqualified immediately prizes of a 3D Total texture CDs to the best entrants. We'll judge it to avoid the voting process getting too complicated and winners will be notified by email. so, here we go, with this week's challenge deadline - 22.00 GMT Wednesday 12th January 2005 modelling time - 60 minutes subject - pedal power bicycles, tricycles, unicycles, if it needs pedals to make it go then you can model it Good luck Andy |

I don't think so Vladoportos, we had "green power" which covered all sorts of things but not specifically pedals

most of a bike is going to be tube primitives or swept spline circles and the hardest bit of most bikes is going to be the gear mechanism or the spokes etc - who says wheels have to use spokes? they can be solid like racing (or some BMX and mountain) bikes which neatly hides the place where the gears, and most of the chain would be if rendered from the correct angle ![]() Andy |

I will do better later on (hope)....------------------------------------------------------- OK that render looks for longer than i expected im going sleep or watching Red Dwarf (I love it), god night every one i will post my render tomorowLast edited by vladoportos; 06-01-2005 at 05:21 AM.. |

Not one of THOSE bikes you mentioned! Cylinders?... Would it sound rational to say that box-modeling a primitve cage would help you gain pace to a serious degree? vladoportos, I think the seat is actually an something to do from a cube+extrusions. But if you have an intention to do the spring mechanism for the suspension underneath. You may struggle dearly. Lets see what you all have got!

as to the saddle
for those who are struggling - here's a 5 minute one i made with C4D. It's a DXF file of a "control mesh" so anyone should be able to import it - just add your own subdivision to smooth it As we've done before you may use this mesh as part of your model but if you do you incur a time penalty of 7 minutes so your total modelling time will be reduced to 53 minutes springs are pretty easy to make - try sweeping a circle with a helix as the "path" Andy |
