Inside surfaces

Afternoon'

Just wondering how i can 'show' the inside s of something. I have posted a very quick example of a pot/vase thing. As you can see, there appears to be no surface on oneside and you can see straight through it! How can i correct this ?

you could also give it a material with 2-sided checked in the material editor

one thing with using the "force 2 sided" option is that it will (probably) technically double the geometry in your scene at render time, which could slow things down in a big scene. The reason for that is because all objects are 1 sided, so by forcing 2 sided max has to create all the objects again with flipped normals.

so you're probably best to either use a 2-sided material like Niekie mentioned (which should only double the geometry of any object with that material)....or if you're using max6 or 7 use the shell modifier...which will give you the option of uv mapping the inside of the pot and applying a different texture than the outside.

if you're using max 5 or lower, you could clone the polys of the pot, scale them in a bit, flip them, and then use the create polygon tool to join the inner and outer sections....this should do more-or-less the same as the shell modifier

oh one final option is to use a "double sided" material (instead of the default "standard" material). This way you can apply 2 different standard materials (or any other material for that matter) to the model. this will also give you the ability to have different textures for the inside and outside of the pot, without having to use a shell-modifier.

I couldn't find the force 2 sided option so i went for the 2 sided material in the end and it worked
