Disappearing Poly shades

Really need some help guys. Im modelling this guy and when I try to combine the ear and the head the inside of the ear disappears and when you look inside head all the shading disappears. Its really weird amd shows up in renders too (using Maya btw)

Any help as to why this is happening would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mato

Sorry, I don't use MAYA, but from what I see it would appear that in your shot of the head without the wireframe showing, there is a 2-sided gray material on it. I know this because the interior of the head is visible through the eye.On the shot of the head with the wire frame showing, the interior poly's (visible thru eye) are not shaded, they are invisible.

Based on this my diagnosis is that on the polygons of the ear you have the normals flipped.
