Question 3ds max 6: SKinning problem when using a spline as a bone

Hi!

As you can see from the image below, I have a skinning problem. I made that green object with lathe modifier. Now I would like the bend it easily to different positions with skin modifier. I put an editable spline as the bone for the skin modifier. I also adjust the size of the spline envelope. (The green object is also linked to the spline to easily move the whole object around).

I don't understand why the skinning doesn't work in many really easy positions when I move the vertices of the spline. Has anybody had the same problem and found any solutions?

Lofting or FFD modifiers could be used to make somehow similar effects but they have also they own problems. The skin modifier would be great if it worked like I thought it should.

Thanks in advance...
