Need Help : Chrome with Mental Ray
Hey, I'm working on my concept hot rod right now, and I really need to figure out how to get a nice looking chrome with mental ray. I've searched google up and down for help, but no luck. I've tried myself but with very little progress.
Please help me if you can Thanks NwFnd |

Lets see if i can help you...
Im a beginner myself, but this is how i do Chrome. First off open marterial editor. Click where it says standard. Change that to Raytrace. Now change the Diffuse color to Pure Black. Change specular level to 100 and glossiness to 20. Goto your maps and under reflect put a falloff. Change the black to a light grey also change falloff type to fresnel. Now go back to your parent and click Raytrace. (same place as standard) Change it to Shellac, it will ask you to keep old material say yes. Now there should be two slots shellac and Raytrace. Click the shellac one and change that to NONE (the same way you changed standard to raytrace). now change i believe its called "blend", its under the raytrace shellac slots, to 50 (default is 0). You should have chrome now. If this isnt what your were looking for sorry to waist your time. Here is a picture of what it should look like. |
