Eurocom (Derby, England) - Various Vacancies
Eurocom is one of the world’s leading independent games developers, providing entertainment software development services to all major interactive and entertainment companies. We are now celebrating our 17th year developing blockbuster titles on console, PC and handheld platforms. Our most recent releases include Spyro: A Hero’s Tail, Athens 2004, the acclaimed Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, and games based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter and James Bond, and our forthcoming titles (notably Batman Begins and Robots) are eagerly anticipated. We have several huge, and so far unannounced, licence-based and original games in development for current and next-generation hardware. Eurocom has always valued its independence and the ability this gives to choose the strongest hardware platforms, licences and publishers to work with.
We are a successful, growing business, with more than 200 staff based in our Derby studio and are currently seeking skilled and highly committed people to further strengthen our team of talented professionals.
An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Tools Programmer (Ref: TO23). As a pro-active member of our tools team, you will be key in the design, implementation and support of internal Eurocom tools and utilities. You will possess strong C++ programming skills and will have substantial knowledge of and experience of working with 3D maths. Knowledge of physics, mechanics and other game-related concepts, experience of 3D graphics development using DirectX and/or OpenGL, and/or experience of Windows application development using MFC and/or .Net would be a distinct advantage. To succeed in this role, you must be able to work on your own initiative and as an effective team player. Previous games industry experience is desirable but not essential.
We are also looking for:
An experienced Engine Programmer (Ref: EG16) to join our core engine technology team and perform programming tasks in relation to Eurocom’s internal game engines. This role requires previous games industry experience and strong XBox 1/XBox 2/PC graphical programming skills.
An Engine Programmer: Effects System Programmer (Ref: EG16) to join our core engine technology team, taking responsibility for the visual effects systems in our next-generation engine. We are looking for an experienced professional with a background in PC or console graphics programming who is adept at high and low-level effects programming with knowledge/experience of C++ maths.
A Core Technology Manager (Ref: EG11). Reporting directly to and working closely with the technical director to formulate aims and objectives in-line with business requirements, the postholder will be responsible for planning and managing current and forthcoming core engine technology tasks in conjunction with the core engine technology team to ensure that the needs of the project teams are effectively supported. A natural leader and a good team player when needed, candidates will need to possess well-developed planning and organisational skills, programming knowledge and strategic awareness. Previous project management experience is desirable but not essential, as is games development experience.
Level/Gameplay Designers (Ref: BT3) with a keen interest in a wide variety of game genres and games in general and an intuitive awareness of what constitutes good gameplay design. For this role, you will need to have a basic level of knowledge of 3D modelling (Max or Maya) for creation of prototype levels together with a basic level of knowledge of programming/scripting concepts for creation of scripts. You must also be able to demonstrate design work (finished playable levels). Good inter-personal skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and accurate manner are also pre-requisites.
3D Artists (Ref: BT4), with an intermediate to advanced knowledge of Maya or Max and an intermediate to advanced level of knowledge of Photoshop, required to produce graphic art in-line with project requirements. You must be able to create high-quality textures and to demonstrate skills in low-polygon 3D model building, including detailed buildings, vehicles, props, weapons, etc. Previous experience in the games industry or similar is highly desirable but not essential.
