Shading is what I used to do a few years back - light and shado all over the place, not real direction for any of it. Do not feel offended, but you do need to focus more on that next time. Would be easier to split first the drawing in two parts: light part and shadow part. Then determine the high and lows of your character (nose its a high, eye socket its a low). Everything hit by light generates a shadow, the closest to its parent, the darker. After you get acustomed with simple shading you'll get into radiosity and how the light bounces off the objects. Start simple and focus on the things you think you're weakest at.

Alright, here, hope this is better. The head's not good for me though, I'm not sure what I don't like about it.

I would advise you to use a reference picture. Choose a picture of a person resembling your character posture and use it to draw your character. Use its light and shadow reference as well.

heres my post.. I'm new, and I'm not as good as everyone here b/c I'm not that old, but everyone here is an inspiration to me! I actually dont draw that often, and I dont have any resources to draw electronically, but once I saw some of the members artwork it inspired me to draw a lot more. I cant explain it, and I'm probably getting boring, but you guys are awesome.

Here's one for 'challenge'. Kind of a david vs goliath thing. Took about 1.5 hours for the drawing... but that counts in time I stopped for dinner. Speaking of challenge, I'm trying hard with anatomy & perspective, so any pointers would be appreciated. I think the back arm of the spear dude (goliath) gave me lots of trouble. And yeah, I know he's holding the spear like a pool stick... har har!

*edit*

Now that it's posted, I can see that I need some kind of common object to really set the size of the two combatants. David, instead of rolling to the side and bending back, looks like he's laying down in the background instead of just looking smaller in size... any ideas?

Ok, a few things here: first of all Goliath's posture is wrong. He doesn't look like wielding that spear, but rather like he triped on something and its falling and he's trying to break the fall with the spear. Second, the way he's "grasping" the spear its not grasping at all. None of his hands really keeps the shaft of the spear. If you can, look to some movies with gladiator fighting (Spartacus, The Gladiator) to observe the style of fighting back then.
Here is a quick sketch I've done that will hopefully help you.

Hi, I've been wanting to improve my drawing skills and I love what you guys have been producing here. Here's a quick sketch I just did for the 'challenge' topic.

It's pretty bad, but I'd like some tips on improving If anyone knows any good websites for drawing anatomy, please let me know. My tutor at college said I didn't need any tips on perspective, but I'm pretty sure I do.

I have a habit of running out room like what happened in this sketch, so I'm gonna try to start drawing from the feet up in future.

I did this some time ago but I thought it would be worth posting.

I drew this in school one day.

Started off with a simple shield then got the idea of making a chaos guy behind it and voila!

Drawn with pen so no erasing mistakes, how many work like this?

You can also see it in the Warhammeronline.com fan art pages.
