3dsMax 6 files load in 3dsmax 7 just fine for me. What error do you get?

save your 7 file as .3ds......6 should open it fine.

.3ds only supports geometry and mapping cords, that isnt practical...

Max 5 to 6 has the same issue, and I used BFF(bobo's file format). I dont know if it supports 7 but you can give it a shot. It's not perfect but it will support things that most file formats wont (lights, cameras, etc...).
