A smart scene with some simple geometry. I like how it's turning out so far, but you could use a few more steps to make it really pop. Consider the following:

1. Revamp that lighting. It looks like you're using one light. While this is realistic and logical, it doesn't do the job in 3d terms. Why not hop over to www.3dtotal.com and read up on some lighting tutorials. I also highly recomend reading the interior lighting tutorials at www.cgarchitect.com under the resources dialogue. There you can find tips to make it look like it's really indoors. If this is out of your range, you can always use radiosity or light tracing.

2. The chair material is pretty snazzy. Why not jazz us by making that cushion on the seat more ripply? Notice when you sit in a couch for a while, especially a plastic-y sort like the one you have here, the material expands and forms waves. Consider cutting up the center randomly with the cut tool (alt C) and raise and lower some verticies with a M-Smooth modifier. That'll give it that "freshly sat in" look.

3. Finally, the wall material could use some work. Go to google.com and search for interior painting techniques. Or, better yet, go to your local home depot or Lowes and take some free sample ideas published by the paint companies. There you will find a wealth of ideas on how to paint walls for free. It's cheaper than a book and twice as effective (you have to really think about what they did to that wall).

Good luck to you!

give it a skylight with a low multiplier, add bump on the chair and also fix specularity, use light tracer for final render or use the mental ray renderer. try it, post it...

Thanx alot for everyones pointers. I didnt even think of some of those lightng techniques. I will try that 4 sure. I tried a skylight and lowered the multiplier but it just blew out the scene I will try it again I will just make the multiplier even more lower this time.

This is why I post wip's because I love getting new ideas to make the scene better :-)

i think you could achieve the ripples bluesummers talked about by just using a bump map. if that wont do the trick, then displasement will. however, i heard displacement is complicated in 3dsm (i use c4d, its just like bump there). i also agree about the wall texture.
the chair mesh looks good. smooth and low poly. nice modelling.

Ill try that bump map idea I will also try the other idea as in cut the heck out of the cushion and push and pull vertices till it looks like someone just sat in it. ThanX for the comment on my clean modeling always good to hear things like that.
