Thumbs down MAYA hair

hello, i'm finding a lot of troubles with maya hair... i just want to link the lenght of the hair to a bmp file (black and white)... every Maya's option can be controlled by an image file but i really don't understand how to make this work... when i was a max user i worked with hairFX and it was so easy

Hey Nookie,

Did you you already unwrap the mesh before you created the hair folicols?

Because hair fx will work if the object your applieing it to does not have a texture map.

yeah, i've already unwrapped the mesh... the problem is that i don't know where i should drag the texture file to control the lenght of the hair. for example in the fur description you can drag a file on the lenght slider and then bake the texture but there's noghint similar in the hair rollout... in the help file it shows how to "cut" the curves (selecting and deleting the CVs) but i think that it's not so easy...

Nookie,

The reason it doesn't have the same options as the fur is, because I think the connection has to be made in the hypershade in the work area. If I remember correctly, right click on the node of the hair, and then connect it to your texture file. Pero' non ti preocupare amico mio. My buddy has the Ditigtal Tutor Maya hair fx DVD, and I'll go threw it once more to see if this is the right way. Try this for now and see if this works, and get back to me if it does.

It's cool Nookie my fault. I'm going to watch that DVD , and do some tests.

Once I do that I'll try to post some screen shots ,and I'll be able to explain more in depth once I freshen up on working on hair fx.
