look for some books about anatomy...
i think the region under the eyes is too flat and above them you could pull out the vertexes a bit. the nose is too small in my opinion, but for your first head its quite good, keep it going! (would be usefull if you post a wire of the head) |

try putting a FFD cage modifier on your mesh... this makes it a lot easier to add shape if u already have the geometry

it's a solid start! are you using references for you model? it would be a lot
easier for anatomy/analogy of the head, by the way it's a great start for your first try. is it possible for us to see the front view (not just a half but the whole head using mirror modifier) it's easier to spot mistakes. there is some bumpy area (i mean there is area that is not as smooth as it should be) try spacing some vertex and give less weight in that area. keep at it, i'm sure you'll make a great first head! ![]() |

hi!
to make a wire there is a simple way to do it, select the material you gave to the head and check the wire ticker. then you render without meshmooth and you have a wire rendered or another way, you zoom out for each viewport in max so the head fill each view. you press the Print Scrn button on you keyboard. then you go to any photo editor you want (event microsoft paint..) and you do file new -> edit -> paste then you resize, cut or do whatever you want with the different view you have, hope i helped. the head needs some little tweaking, there is some small spot where the skin bump (small deformation resulting in a non smoothed surface) if you post the wire maybe it will be easier for us to show you. keep at it! ![]() |

It seems you have some 3-sided polys there, these you want to get rid of. Try to make all 4-sided. This should help to get rid of unwanted "pinching" in meshsmooth. One good tutorial you might want look in to is Joan of Arc (or something like that) on 3D totals tutorial section. It really helped me out.
Are you after this kind of child like smooth and round design. In that case (and almost any other) my advice would be to really look at the wire, and try to make it clean and smooth. Not bad for a first head though. |

HI immigrant
THIS IS FROM THE JOAN OF ARC, by Michel Roger, and it was his idea to make the three sided polys, I dont know how did the tutorial helped you out if in that tutorial they make the same thing that you are telling me not to do? but anyway, am really interested to hear from you. and I hope next time you would explain more. thank you very much for your advice, I will try to make that in my new head that I will start soon, I really dont see a hope in this one, so I may just stop updating it and try something else fresh. have a nice day.

nice one man, but 3 sided faces is realy bad, the joan of arc tutorial is great but u must take the idea from it and don't follow it 100%. and anthor thing u don't u make the ears that are in the joan of arc tutorial the are really easy and great.

Thanks agony
well . . . what can I say, I do want to animate this model, and yes I know that the tutorial is not really good because of the three sided polygones and lots of edge loop problems, well . . . I am having a big problem with the tutorial and with the model, there is a moment where you can not avoid the three-sided polygones. By the way this blue head is totally new the wire frame is not to this head but it is similar. About the ears, as you see I dont want to make a real human body, in fact if I will work on this model I want to make a siren, or maybe a sea monster. One thing I would like to say about 3-sided polygones, they are not really that bad if you know where to make them, I know that they will break the light because of the normals, but most people agree now days that the most important thing is the line's flow, well . . . lol, in this model I dont see any lines. anyway thanks again agony I hope to hear more from you. Have a nice day.

agree with the 3 sided polys, well it's mainly for the meshsmooth to work
correctly (in my opinion) there is sometimes that you cannot avoid making on of them, from the moment that it doesn't deform the mesh when meshsmooth applied I don't really see where is the problem. but I also agree that the most clean is the mesh the better will looks the model. (and also it's better to learn clean modelling )as for the Joan of Arc tut, well I have to say that it's one of the most complete tutorial I've ever read. I learned Unwrapping from this one, as for modelling I have a totally different approach keep at it Jalal! waiting for next update ![]() |

Thank you very much JamesMarshall
It is Cartoon (pinup), I am just studying as you can see, so everytime I finish a head (well ...finish!!!) I post it here, you can see how I started (my first head) and where I am going (the last one) thanks to ares for the idea to make pinup models, it is really nice and fun to do, and thanks to Mr.T who encouraged me to continue with this thread, and of course thanks also to everyone else who tried to help me to get better.I just started not long time ago, and there is still lots to know about the program am using and modeling in general, I know that my work is not really a painting to talk about but I am happy for the moment with what I have and I am doing my best (I guess) to improve my skills.you can see the reference photo of this model at ( http://pinuptoons.com/Galleries/Digital/98.htm ) a wonderful site all about Pinup (it has some nudity) thank you again James, I hope to hear more from you.
