3Ds Max 7 ; Huge noob here.

Title says it all. I just picked up this program (trial) to edit some CAS files in Rome: Total War.

I'm trying to flatten the mounds in that model (a palisade wall resides on the mounds) and make them level with the ground. I was making some progress, but I have no idea how to create more of those grey boxed areas.

The area with the yellow line running through it is an area that I want to be level with the red-dotted grey boxes.

Picture 1

If I've screwed that up too much then here is the original model. I want those elevated mounds to be level with the rest of the model. The trenches, however, on the exterior side of the mounds I want to stay.

Picture 2

Hmm... Also, unless it's done in the same fashion, how would I go about making the interior of the camp level with the palisade mounds?

I'm afraid I've never edited maps like this, so the results could be anything...but...
Try just scaling it down along the Z axis so far that the whole thing is flat. When you're done, I'd recommend clicking the 3rd tab in on your interface (called heirarchy) and click where it says Adjust Transform < Reset < Scale just in case the game tries to take local coordinates, it won't spaz out when it's given a distorted map. = )

Good luck!

P.S. Here's a screenshot of what I'm talking about...

Thanks for the help; I actually ended up changing my mind and just edited the interior portion of the mounds to be a little flatter so archers could stand on it.

However, there's another problem I need help with. How can I make it so that the ditch and the front part of the mound are inaccessable to both the player and AI?

I.e, how would I give them collision meshes to prevent anything from getting on them?

Got me. 'Fraid I don't know the game you're working with. Good luck, though!

Well I gave up on the collision issue, it actually involves the pathfinding mesh, which is uneditable at this time.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to add new vertices to this underlay!

I'm trying to make a clavicula (basically a roadblock) to be placed in front of the gateway.

Picture

The two groups of four vertices are what I want attached to the underlay like the other vertices around them. I.e., when I move the vertices I want them to pick up the mesh with them so I can alter the terrain.

I'm also curious why none of my help options work! Is it because I'm running the trial version? Or do they open up in a seperate/unseen window?

Lo Siento, I've been really busy lately! Guys, I don't know how to get it for max 7, I only know for max6 that I think there's a plug-in for it. Try this, though, and let me know if it works. Hit the 'y' key, and see if it pops up. If not, click on http://t1000.mggm.net/ui.rar and unzip the file.

Take a backup of your entire "UI" Folder in c:/3DSM6 or c:/3DSM7 directory and copy mine into its place. Be sure to take a backup because there's no guarantee this will work!! I'll see if I can do it in spanish too, so don't laugh if it's dumb sounding: tome una copia de la carpeta de "UI" y ahorrela eso, por que esta tecnica puede no trabajar. Copia mi carpeta "UI" en la espacio de su carpeta presente.

I think that makes sense...

It should give you my user interface, which has the tabs. However, there's a possibility it won't work because I'm on max 6 and you're on max 7. Let me know if it works or not! =)
