speed modelling challenge - week 55 - 3D-Avatar

The rules are simple

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified

2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries.Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified

3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified

4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containg the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified.

5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images Files. larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified

6, time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions

this weeks challenge:

Time limit - 60 minutes
Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 20th July 2005
Subject - 3D-Avatar

This may seem to be one of the most "free" subjects for some time, but don't forget that there is a client you still have to impress with your work you present.
The avatar used does not HAVE to be one you shall be making use of the rest of your life. But none the less it would be a wise idea to make something applicable.

Good Luck

Andy & Black

Edit; Sorry it took so long... But once the computer was free I did a dear few try-outs to my avatar which didn't really work.
Now instead; the face is a projected texture. (The gradience is obtained by a transparency map and a simiallar specularity map)
The rest didn't take long to model... nothing special.
All done in MaYA and PhotoShop.

Ok, let me be the first to ask a stupid question(s)....3d avatar.....what the heck is that. Are we refering to an avatar in a vrml virtual world? or an avatar like we have as users on this forum? I'm perplexed. And this avatar would be for a client....what kind of clients would need avatars and for what purpose. Crap...I'm lost on this.

I need a new avatar! My immediate first thought was about the size of my entry - i.e why build an 800x600 avatar? I think I willl post an 800x600 entry comprising an actual size avatar, the full sized render and a wire.

But first...sleep.

it's an easy one for you, just make your teapot It's slightly more difficult for me to redo my avatar in 3d.

But I guess we can make something new too, but I personaly do not plan to change my avatar anytime soon (it has a long history ).

regards,
tokai

Mmm like yours is a 3D-avatar FastRak; Tokai's isn't.

Create an avatar that represents you or that represents some one else. The only catch is that the mager elements in it have to be 3D.

Does that help clear it?

Black

Ps; The entries are again to be 600 x 800 landscape or portrait layout...
If you wnat to have a small representation of what it would look like in it's smaller size... feel free to add it in. How you composite your entry is totally up to you

I think u'r avatar is a perfect exemple for a 3D AVATAR, it's an avatar and it's made in 3D,
So I think we must build an normal avatar like all we have, but wiht our 3D pakage, like U did with yours.

And I think ther are companies that want avatar's, for examples YAHOO Mesangers, use avatars and they have a defaut set of avatars, like user chose from them, off corse user cand upload they own image, but they must provide a set of defaut image.

and a better example is 3DTotal, user here on Threedy use avatars, so they coud ish to provide users a set of defaut avatars to chose form them, and they can hire people to make that avatars, so 3Dtotal coud be a client for avatar request.

hope I'm right Black

It's been a while.
Hopefully I can find the time to enter this week but I doubt it, has Fastrack been winning every week as usual?....quite right too

Cheers

Arghh this is too hard I planned on joining this challenge....

Too bad my imagination is so poor
Ah well, i think i'll try with an entry later this week. This'll be my first entry of all times on this page.

Jus one question: Can i reuse ideas from old challenges? I don't mean copy them but like make similar stuff with my personal twist to it?
