This might be a really stupid question and proberly is but can anyone tell me what is the easyest way to import textures for the 3dtotals textures cds into 3ds max, the texture and bump map.

go to your material browser, then on a standar material roll down to maps, then click the button next to difuse color then select bitmap an then browse your map texture, do the same with the bump

Next stupid question, textures which have backgrounds which need to be transparent i.e. fencing etc... how do you make it transparent

with a alpha map = make a map of white and black, put it on the opacity slot the same way you did with the texture and the bump.
the white part of your map is the one you will see, the black part will be transparent.
