Apple's Mighty Mouse

After twenty years with only ''one button,'' Apple releases its first ever multi button mouse, the Mighty Mouse.

Apple has released their first ever mouse to include more than one button, the Mighty Mouse. Throughout the last 20 years, the bitten Apple has never released a mouse with more than one button. Although its operating system did support such devices, you had to buy an non-Apple mouse to experience the magic of multi-buttons.

Mighty Mouse

Left and right buttons, a two-dimensional scrollbar that can be clicked, and two side buttons that when clicked together trigger a custom action. Much like its older brothers, the Mighty Mouse has no apparent buttons like usual mice, but it uses a touch-sensitive shell to detect where your fingers are. As Apple puts it, "you don’t need two buttons — just two fingers."

Considering that the mouse is corded, the initial price tag of $49 seems somehow too high. But this probably isn't something new with Apple accessories.

The mouse is compatible with Microsoft Windwos.

well it's about time!!

and once again Apple have come up with a fantastic looking piece of hardware... i've heard mixed reviews though. but i could really get used to that scroll ball... could this perhaps do away with the need for a Griffin Powermate?

and of course the strangest thing is that Apple's Shake really needs a multi-button mouse so you can use it properly. and they've only now come up with one.

"Touch-sensitive top shell"
I hope it still gives a "click" when you press it. A mouse without physical feedback would suck.

Well, that´s a good way to spin it...

I was just wondering this a few days ago, I mean the reluctance of Apple to incorporate more than just one button; why was it?, tradition, trademark keeping, perhaps elitism?

Dunno, good for them, and now perhaps I´ll consider a Mac with less reluctance.

Yeah, I think that touch sensitive stuff is not the way to go. my fingers are always on the mouse buttons, and when I wanna click, I click. There really is no way to improve the mouse, unless it's a unit that reads your mental intentions and moves the cursor via brainwaves.
