Usually these kinds of tutorials are embedded in larger, more complex ones. I hope that geometry you have there is not collapsed, since it's always harder to work with more polygons over less. If this is the case, you've got a little more work cut out for you than you may expect, but it's still recoverable. I would suggest chunking out the work. I completely understand your frustration, since it took me a while to grasp the idea too.
Grab each piece, section by section and map it out using the UVWMap modifier. Start with the engines for instance- map them with cylindrical- plain and simple. Then, assign them a texture channel under the polygon properties rollout at the base of the stack. When that section has been mapped and had a channel assigned, you collapse the stack and move on to the next section. I can't talk much about it here, but try these tutorials for information: Right here at 3dtotal There's a good one on page It guides you through some basics of UVW unwrapping, But my favorite is the Sad Mike Tutorial which taught me the basics. Hope that helps some. If you have any specific troubles you can post them here, but general things like "how to UVWMap" is best asked of a full length tutorial. =) Oh, and always post what software you are using! Good luck, my friend!
