maya - modelling questions

Hi,

If i smooth a poly object how can i switch between the unsmoothed object and the smoothed object, i.e. is there a fast way to switch between the 2.

u can use smooth proxy or if u have already applied the smooth command u can go in the hypergraph, then select the surface u want to remove it from, press the "input and output connections" button at the top and then select the poly smooth node and delete it.

In the other hand, if your model is finished you can switch between Low res/Hi res by changing divisions value.
search in channel box ( select first the object ) the polySmoothFace node and below you will see all the attributes,
in divisions put 0 = low , 1=hi

Old_Nick's method is usually what I go for if not go on in and smooth then undo.

But there is a free plugin that allows you to see the smoothed mesh or a selection of components smoothed with a single button. It's called Active smooth.
