hi guys.
I've been looking at a texturing tutorial here on 3dtotal about the maing of an office scene. I really want to recreate the reusty metal can(image attached). However, the image shows a final texture that is transparent which doesnt seem to be an effective metal texture. Am I missing something. How would you create a similar texture? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I have tried e-mailing the author but no luck. cheers Anthony |

The final texture looks transparent because of it's reflectivity. Basically any decent metal texture is only as good as what it can reflect from surrounding areas ( HDRI's are great for chrome and other metals etc etc )
If you think about a chrome surface with no reflective components surrounding it then it would look pretty plain to be honest. So in answer to your question the texture is not transparent but reflecting the coroured blocks surrounding it.
