Jawa Sandcrawler
Hey guys.
I've been assigned the task of producing a high-detail model of a Jawa Sandcrawler from Star Wars IV. It's fairly slow going, but I think it's getting there. Let me know what you think: ![]() ![]() This was produced in 3D Studio Max. Last edited by Yembles; 01-10-2005 at 06:34 AM.. |

I have NO idea what that is, lol. Show a render from a bit firther away, and/or the blueprints so we can see what you're going for.
Looks clean though. |

I didn't know what it was either but I found some pics,
Here are a couple links to some reference pictures: http://www.sicqnus.com/swafcl34.htm http://kershsite.com/Connection/Jawa/jawa.htm Is star wars 4 the first star wars? All of that prequel stuff confuses me. Loads of detail, maybe too much at least on the front of it according to this picture from the movie (I think). Yours looks cooler IMO.

Thanks for the images Megadave, they'll come in handy.
![]() I know I went a little over the top with the face extruding, I might go back and make it a little more subtle later. We'll see what happens. |

Heh, well I do know what a Jawa Sandcrawler is, and looks like you're doing a good job on it so far.
I think you're right in going back to tone down those extrusions....in fact, I probably would just get rid of them all together and create all that detail with the texture. Most of the details on this thing can just be textured.

I think perhaps you're right, Puckducker...
What a pain in the ass that's going to be. Any idea how to speed the process up? I'll just remove the front detail (or at least tone it down), the side stuff can stay. |

Sorry for the double post...
I've got rid of the extrusions on the front, I plan to use a displacement map later to get the desired effect. I've left the extrusions on the side, but I'll probably tone them down to make them seem a little less extreme. I've now finished all the side detailing. All the funky mechanics stuff is in place and I'm quite happy with how it's going. Let me know what you think. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Been working really hard on this over the last few days and I'm almost finished. I just have the back detailing to do then I can (gulp...) texture it. :S Let me know what you think. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice details you have there. I think you should lower the extrudes on the sides, like you did on the front part. Keep it up

Very nice, great work on the details.
I agree that the extrudes may be too drastic on the sides, but I don't know for sure. Good luck with the texturing, looks like it is going to be a booger.

I've finished it.
And I've done three FINAL renders (final, that is, until I go back and texture it. Need to improve on my texturing skills first though) in space-age white (everything looks good in white ).Let me know what you think. ![]() Polycount: 185897 polygons. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It looks really good, except for one thing (which was mentioned above already) : The plating (extrusions) are way too deep or sometimes even the other way around from what I'd expect them to be. Because now, some plates work like a checkerbox. One is up, the other one down. But in 'reality' two plates side by side would be the same height. It's just that the edge between them is slightly 'deeper'
Does this make sense to you?
