Question problem in max training dvd v1

hi, rich.I am keith, i am a new member, nice to meet you.well, i have just bought the max training dvd v1, i am now in modeling section 2. The thing is that there seem to be a gap between movie a and b. The movies don't show how you transform the polygon in movie a to the more "head alike" shape in movie b. Why???

Hello Keith,
Well you are not the first nor probably the last to highlight this aspect. The reason for this is that this is very early on in the modelling process and with the few techniques already introduced I thought that as the model was so simple it would be good practice for people to get straight into the learning process and manipulate the verts using lessons outlined. As this is the beginning of the DVD it would be useful to try and mimic the screen renders as it will stand you in good stead for when things get a little more complex. Do not worry too much if your model does not exactly replicate mine - the most important factor is being able to grasp the techniques and principals and be able to adapt these to creating your own work eventually. Use the tutorial more as a guide to learning and not so much as a way of making an identical mesh. You should still be able to create a similar head in the end.
Any more problems then just let me know,
Rich.

DVD Problem

Hi Keith,
It seems to be a problem with your RAM, which is used heavily for the Flash Movies, especialy when you scrub backwards and forwards. Some things that can help solve this:

Copy the Contents of the DVD to your hard drive
Upgrade RAM
Close any application running in the background (msn, email etc)

This should solve your problem. Let me know how it goes.

Ben

Further missing video question:
Any chance, can someone please tell me why the second texturing video is missing?
texturing video 1 basically explains the initial layering structure, video 2 in my mind would demonstrate the all important initial air brushing techniques on the face, completely skipped. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks,
Alexi

Hello Alexib,
I assume you are refering to the painting in of shadows and highlights ?
There is in fact no missing movie on the DVD for section 2. This particular product only includes movies that cover the more detailed and difficult aspects of the texturing process. The shadows and highlights are very straight forward and not hard to paint in. If you follow the text and illustrations I feel pretty confident you will be able to achieve a similar look to mine without needing to watch any movie. This section includes no real detail or tricky techniques and the parameters for the airbrushing are visible in the diagrams. It is more a case of emphasing the geometry as opposed to painting in details and does not require any high level of knowledge or skill.
Many thanks,
Rich.
