LOW POLY CHALLENGE #2 - Assassin Challenge

Low Poly Mini Contest # 2

Subject – Assassin

ALL WIPS AND CONCEPTS ARE TO BE KEPT ON THIS THREAD: )

You must create an Assassin type character. Someone basically that would fit in a world
Similar to Aeon Flux, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo or any other popular cartoon
of that style. Or basiclaly some kind of assassin that looks like he/she could be a killer: ) The cartoons were basiclaly just to help give ideas: )
I also feel if you want to go comical or funny you can as well : ) It even can be cartoony as long as it fits the profile of an assassin.

As for existing characters that belong in those popular cartoons I feel its better for you to come up with your own original idea cause part of the voting will be based off your own concepts. This doesn’t mean this will hurt you in the judging incase your not the best artist. But if for example you decide to create a character based off an original drawing to try and match the likeness of that style feel free, but make sure to give it its own personal look. I hope that made any sense.

Also we will keep all post on the same thread. So all WIP’s will belong on the same thread. Only cause last contest started out really strong but as soon as we decided to give each contestant his own thread the contest died down a lot. I figured it we keep one thread active. That it will keep everyone’s interest. Besides who wants to have a million inbox messages in the e-mail account : ) - Example the Speed Modeling Challenges are kept on one thread and they stay very active.

Guide Lines

The winner of the contest will receive the Low Poly mini Challenge Excellence Award.
Judging: 10 points possible for each.
Concept - How well your concept is designed / Innovation?
Model – How your model looks and how efficient it is
Texture – How well the texture job is done?
Closeness to Style – Does it really fit in the world of topic.

DUE DATE: December 31st: )
That should be plenty of time: )

Concept:
Must be provided before you actual model: )
You must provide some sort of illustration that will represents your model.
Your character must have a name and a short bio.

Poly limit:
5000 tri’s.
This includes any weapons you make for the model.

Textures:
1024 x 1024

You can break up the map sizes.
Textures can be hand painted or you can photo source.
Normals, Bumps and specs are optional.

Rigging:
I would prefer to have your models rigged and posed. Only for the reason
That the winner of the contest will receive a Graphic Award of Excellence
For there hard work.

But if you decide not to rig your model, this will not hurt your chances in the judging process. But can hurt your chances of getting the Excellence
Award
. Only cause I feel in order to receive this honor you must complete
a character from Modeling to texturing to rigging: ) I don’t believe in half
done projects. But I do understand some off you might not understand how
to rig. But that is why we are having this contest on the forums, not only to
build relationships with other 3d artist, but to help each other grow as artist.
Feel free to ask me any rigging advice or any other 3dtotal threedy member.
I’m sure there are plenty of members willing to share there knowledge or help
Guide you in the right direction.

Final Pictures:
You must show your original concept.

You must provide a screen grab of your wire frame with your poly count.: )
With the actual model and all its parts selected.: ) Please don’t Photoshop your Poly counter with a bogus count LOL! I swear I seen some pics with a
Photoshoped Poly count : (

Also provide at least 2 rendered pictures of your model with weapon in Hand.
Even better try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the MEGA MAN CONTEST : )

I think that might cover it: ) Feel free to post any suggestions or questions on this thread.

Well Good luck everyone : ) Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

nice,

I read on this post awhile back that we could team up? or was that only for the case of two votes making a tie?

and if teams are posible would the 5000 tris be for each model or all together?

just a question of thought,

l8r,

~X~

Thumbs up

Haven't even noticed these before (haven't been around too much lately). What a great idea and the last challenge was so very cool. I will definitely try to find time for this...hopefully. Love the subject too

well, acutally those guidelines were not exactly what I expected. My character wont be from any cartoons or anime cuz I don't watch any of those... for the sake of origniality, I will make an original assassin character from the Tribes universe, popular games from former game company Dynamix, and later Vivendi Universal. If that's ok with the Mods, I'd like to go ahead with what I had planned because, seriously, having to take characters from specific animes hinders the efforts of people who don't watch animes (like me). As long as it's an assassin, it should be eligible, right?

Same question from me. I've never seen Aeon Flux, Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo.

Yeah, I think this would be better off with an open ended Assassin theme. It's focused enough so that everyone will have a common theme, but it also allows for lots of different concepts and styles.

Yeah, but I think you'd be opening the door to a lot of cool characters by broadening the topic a little bit. It would be great if some people drew inspiration from the suggested cartoons, but I think it would become quite redundant after seeing 10 Samurai Champloo characters.

I think it's rather good to have a clear theme, just like the previous one had the megaman theme. I've never seen any of these anime's either, but that makes it just a bit more challenging imo...like a work assignment, you have to sometimes do things you aren't that familiar with, and learn new stuff. + a clear theme makes it easier to compare the final models. But it's quite ok with me if the theme is more open, and i do agree that it makes the variation more wide. Just my opinion

Well, i'd better get drawing. If it doesn't fit in with the correct style( though, I will try to do it anime/manga ) then i'll just do another one.

Lol!

The assassin is open fo sho, I was just stating those types of cartoons to give you guys some sort of ideas: )

As long as your character fits the profile of an assassin then your GOLDEN : )

Good Luck : )

I made the changes to the post stating that the assassin is open, does not have to be from one of those world. Which is what I originally tended. Sorry if it came out that way in the first post guide lines: )

Goat 3DT - Awsome, looking forward to seeing you in this one : )

Call me in, first challenge for me, I like the assasin subject...
But I got a question, with the points for the concept, what do you mean here? I hope you don't mean the quaility of the 2D concept, 'cause I really suck at this, more the details shown in the concept...Or am I wrong?
Think there will be some nice modells
