Ferrari 360 Modena

Gosh original concept huh...lol...hehe,

Started this as part of a little car modelling competition over 5 days, but I don't think its gonna continue so I will just finish it off myself,

3 hours work so far, happy with the progress, only reason im doing this project is to improve my modelling speed and I allways wanted to model a modena, don't expect to see an interior or anything fancy like that cause I just don't have to time to dedicate towards it.

But im enjoying it so far, spent another hour on it after these shots, done the door and side skirt,

Let me know what you think.

The front bumper air intakes aren't perfect but the rest looks good. 1 hour, that seems pretty fast. It takes me just as much if the prints are good and the mesh is not too complicated. When you start the details thats when u really loose time. Good luck.

don't expect too much, I really don't have much time to model these days so it won't be too spectacular, a few hours every weekend at best.

12 hours on the body so far, tell me what you think.

and here are the rims as they are atm. I decided to got for a set of hamann rims after seeing Theshaddix's awesome modena over at cg-cars.com riding on them. Look really sweet on this car I think...

and the wire...and this is at 0 meshsmooth, yeah it is that dense..lol...had to to avoid nasty meshflow around the holes and the curved areas...turned out surprisingly smooth and wasn't too much hassle to make...

Sorry to bore you with another one of these cars, I usually hate doing something that has been done to death but this is really just to pass some time..

Nice update's.
I really like it alot.
The backlights and rims are awesome.
You should make a little tutorial on how to make those smooth holes.
Since i cut a 4 sided polygon in it but it isn't perfectly smooth after extruding and chamfering.

well thats you problem right there, 4 sided "cylinders" are actually squares and will allways retain that property slightly even when smoothed, the minimum sides for a hole should be 6 but 8 and 12 are optimal, as you can see the back lights have like 18 sides (I think) this gives me much more control over the overall shape.

Good luck with your one mate

the method for doing a rim is allways different, every rim has a different spoke to bolt hole ratio and this is the primary thing that will dictate how you should approach the situation,

for example on these rims. there is an 18-5 spoke to hole ration which as you can see will not be able to be broken down into a common divisor. Therefore a simple symetry array would not work for both the spoke and the hole. Whereas on a 5-5 or 10-5 ratios it can be done simpler and modelled at the same time.

I first modelled one 36th of the rim (half a spoke) and then set up a symetry array that would duplicate this part around in a circle to make up the full 18 spoke rim, the center shouldn't be a problem if you make sure you start the segment with a cylinder slice, the pivot should be at the center vert to make sure that the symetry array will be dead center later.

After this I collapsed the full mesh (complete rim) and then started to cut the holes into the center piece as you can see in the wires, getting the geometry density right for this step to work is allways tricky and will more than likely take a few attempts to get right, make sure to make a copy of the symetried mesh before collapsing so you can have multiple goes at it.

Hope this made a bit of sense...its not the easiest rim to model for sure, try something simpler if it is your first go at it..
