Max Render farm setup Advice.

I want to setup a render farm. We are thinking of getting a few machines to setup the network initially and then scale up when we have it going. maybe start with 4 machines for the farm. Thinking of using Linux for the OS on the render farm machines and also a crappy little machine to handle the scheduler. I would like any and all advice as to how to get going.

I figured for hardware specs we just need a small video card, small HD and lots of RAM, and fast network. Thoughts?

What about the render farm Software? I am going to use 3ds max to do all the modeling etc etc so whats a good software setup to get the farm running? Brazil looks good but cant find anyone who runs a farm with it for opinions.
