We have a contract opportunity for an experienced level/mission designer to help build and tune structured experiences for the next version of a flight simulator. This is a 3-9 month opportunity in Redmond, WA. (Please note: relocation is not provided.) Our ideal candidate has an interest in airplanes/flying, experience as pilot and/or experience with flight simulators (working on or playing).
The level/mission designer will be doing mission editing, defining triggers and events, object placement, play balancing, testing, refining, and lots of virtual flying. Taking direction from the lead game designer, he/she will work with the various functions of the team including game design, audio design, program management, art, script writing, and programming to build the missions and the tools to create them. Creativity, patience, attention to detail, speed, and great communication skills are essential since you will be building missions and then flying and refining them repeatedly. You will watch play-testing of the missions and incorporate that learning back into improvement of the missions. You will need to work with Design and Programming to improve the tools you use and may possibly instruct other people on their use both verbally and in writing.
* 3 years related experience
* Proven ability to balance all of the factors of a good mission to make it a great experience
* While being a pilot is not required, thorough knowledge of aircraft operations ranging from airliners to GA is desirable
* An ability to work from specs to achieve design goals
* 3D authoring knowledge and tools experience
* XML experience a big plus!
