Speed Modelling Challenge 78-79 - Free From the Year

The rules are simple

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified

2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified

3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified

4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containg the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified.

5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images Files. larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified

6, time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions

Time limit - 60 or 120 minutes, depending on the week of choice
Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 5th of January 2006
Subject - Any subject from the challanges of 2005

Okay this week we put together a sort of suprise for you guys!

You are allowed to go back to any of the competitions of this week and model an entry according to it's subject!
But be aware that the rules of that week shall ALSO apply to your entry. So read the concept of the weeks of your choice very thoroughly.
The competition is going to last two weeks. But your modeling time shall depend on what you decide to submit. If you go for a two hour concept... use the two hours fully.. the same goes with a one hour concept.

We are very aware that there have been many complicated weeks along with simpler ones and that these simpler ones may be more tempting for you.
But do note that the contestants that take on more challanging subjects shall be taken notice of.

One IMPORTANT rule for this week is that you are obligated to post the concept as well as your software and time used in modeling. Entries that disobey this shall be removed prior to the deadline.

Marty, Fastrak, Andy and Black

Good Luck!

A Quick Starter done in MaYA and PhotoShop...
This was NOT how I had had hoped to post this mesh.
I wished to have had the chance to texture it. But I was not able to in time. I'll have to do it some time later on.

My subect in mention is from the week 71-72 Mini-Me challange (The Jacket didn't manage to finish in the given time so it is not included).

Lol... Hammering3D;
Sometimes I don't know if I should laugh at what you say or how you say it!
You just manage to make it sound cute some how!

The_Bully;
Thats great to hear... good luck!

Adamos;
WHY are none of us suprised?

People;
Please do not forget to add in the details that came in with that week. This will not only make it easier for us to moderate and judge, It will also help other contestants to better follow up on what it's all about.

As a team we are all very glad to hear that you liked the subject!
We actually had a long discussion over this concept with Marty and Fastrak... fearing the complications it may demand.
But Hell... what better way to celebrate the end of the year then with the year?!

Fastrak's Starter

Well, I made my starter....cheated though....I knew ahead of time what challenge was going to be. But then, I'm disqualified anyway.

So I chose Week 33 - Lamp
I wasn't in the forum then, so I chose this one.
It's a craftsman style table lamp.

Good luck to everyone on this wonderful challenge!

Concept Details for Week 33
Quote:
modelling time - 60 minutes
subject - lamp
It doesn't have to be any particular type of lamp it can be a floor mounted standard lamp, an angle poise, desk lamp etc etc etc - your call, make it interesting

info on the pic
