Hey Killer. Welcome to the forums! I'm glad you've decided to embark on a project with some friends. Nothing helps keep you motivated like having a team to support eachother.

When you're looking around for 3DSM tutorials, don't forget that a Tutorial for Max r3 can be useful even in Max7 because the concepts haven't changed much. Take a look at 3dtotal.com under the Free Stuff>Tutorials section. You'll find fameous tutorials like Joan of Arc or Low Poly character construction that can really give you a keen grip on what 3DSMax can have to offer.

Don't write these off as under-explained too quickly. A lot of times it may be because they assume you're already familiar with basic interface concepts (Move, rotate, scale). If you're doing the Joan of arc tutorial, for instance, and you're confused, consider going back a step and working on The Handgun Tutorial.

Take it slow, and one step at a time. It's important to learn to model something before you make it move.

Good luck, and take it easy!

another thing guy forgot to mention is that if you dont understand something in the tutorial, you might want to look it up in 3ds max's glossary. to get to this, click help then user reference. you should also consider following a large variety of tutorials. i personally followed a lot here at the 3dtotal.com/tutorials section and the ones included in the 3ds max tutorials. but i had 3 years of autocad experience before that, so i knew move, rotate, and scale very well. i just didnt know that booleans were so difficult in max

good luck and dont forget to not give up. it gets frustrating, but its not nearly as frustrating as fun.
