Speed Modelling Challenge 94 & 95 - Robots: The Battle Scene
The rules are simple
1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified 2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified 3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframe we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified 4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containing the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified. 5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images Files. larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified 6, Time spent on rendering or texturing a scene in which to display your model is not included in the allocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizable. These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions Time limit - 60 minutes Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 26th of April 2006 Subject - Robots: Battle Scene Robots: Battle Scene Ok everyone, this is the big one. It's to be a battle scene between your "Evil" and "Hero" Robots! This is the first time that Rule #1 will be allowed to be "bent." If you have modeled out an Evil and a Hero Robot, you may re-use those models to place them in your Battle Scene! The object here is to model out your environment... not just composite a photo in the background and call it a "scene." If you want buildings... model them! If you want planets... model them! If you want wet fish.... well... you get the idea. Please note that as it has always been, you do not have to texture your scene... since it is the modeling that matters most. So if you feel that you're not adept at texturing and wish to submit a clay render, that is perfectly fine. Rigging: Not everyone has skill in this area. Luckily, rigging is not part of the modeling time. So if you have a robot that isn't rigged... take as long as you need to learn. (There are ways to get around rigging... like linking or "parenting" objects to each other.) Now, if you are new to us this week.... or did not have a chance to model out a robot for the previous two challenges... or you just want to make a new robot... you may now do so! If you choose to do so, the rules for each robot challenge apply. (So if you make an Evil Robot, check out Week 92 for the rules that apply. The same goes for making a Hero Robot.) This is to give everyone an equal chance at this challenge. Have Fun and Good Luck! Marty, Fastrak, and Andy Last edited by Marty_McFly-3DT; 13-04-2006 at 03:33 AM.. |

The rules say you can still model out new robots if you're comming up short, as long as you stay within the rules of the previouse chalanges.
So if you have some extra spare time you could even start from scratch.

Is it allowed to make changes to the geometry of my hero/evil robot and place them, or do i have to use exactly the same robots?

Hmm.... I guess I can see that some people don't read all the rules huh?

So. . . .
If you didn't have time for the Evil robot. . . .
. . . . and you didn't have time for the Hero robot . . . . . . . . . . you now have four hours to complete ( from scratch ) . . . Two robots, beating the diodes out of each other in a three dimensional environment of your creation ? Or do I read the rules incorrectly ? On a related note, I picked up Z-Brush a few days ago. THAT is going to take some getting used to. Have to experiment with it to see how I like it's integration with XSI. . . . will see if I can do anything with it in the near future.

The same one 800x600 image only with wireframe and the render itself apply? Just wondering, cause fitting enviroment, and wire both in that small image, results in very small battle scene displays.
Another concern I have, while not concern as such. How will we display the new robots if we make pair, or one, or are new to the challenge string itself? As you probably wish to see wires and renders of them too. Fit them to 800x600 with the battlescene? I mean, that would be killer, tiny battlescene? ![]()

You get 90 minuts per robot, if you create new ones you post those seperatly in the threads dedicated to them.
Just link to them when you post the battle scene. edit; comment was too slow ![]()
