newton's cradle - short animation

Hi everyone,

here is my latest animation work:
www.cbaristo.com/newtonscradle

it was made just for fun. there is 3d, post production, and sound stuff.
the post work takes about the 85% of the total.

it was made using:
3d studio max 7.5 (vray without GI)
afterFX 6.5
sony vegas

Pop up the volume a little bit, the sound is very important in this animation.
hope you enjoy it!

cya.

ok ill be the first to comment then...

its really nice...up until about 18secs when it goes close on the silver ball and it breaks to bright white. this doesnt feel right to me...i was watching it and thinking...boy this is neat....then that happened. my quicktime is screwed so i have no sound on quicktime movies. if i get a sec ill convert the file and watch again.

uve got an eye for cutting in the right places...its just the white bit that rubs me up the wrong way.

Thanks for posting lostbear.

Thats right, looking at the animation without sound the action seems to be interrupted.

Sound is very important, specially when the camera takes place between the balls and the white screen appears. There is an explosion and then a huge silence, this suports the animation very well for me.

try to convert it and tell me what you think.
cheers!

cbaristo, I really like your web site and presentation. Just a quick side question: are you a student or a practising professional?

your animation: I really like it. The 3d animation is simple but is clean and works well. Your post work is very nice and adds a lot to the effect of it over all. The post is cut well with the sound track I thought. Very nice renders too.

just one crit really. For my taste I thought the trailing sound fading out (to the blank black frames) was too long considering that the actual meat of the piece finishes just past the half way mark. What I mean is that the actual cool stuff is about the first 65%, then you have your end title and then a lot of blackness (with the sound fading out). I would cut the black frames out at the end and have your sound track fade out on your end title, that way if the viewer doesn't loop your animation, they are left with an image of your name and URL. I think it would make a stringer impression.

Fantastic work though.

sontaran, im a practising professional i guess ; )
At my main job i'm a web designer and flash developer and once at home i made 3d stuff and animations by hobby and as a freelancer.

About the black frames at the end of the animation I really dont have a good axplanation, I just can say that the sound extends the same feeling of the animation for a while, and thats ok for me. Even after the title you still feeling the same enviroment because the ambient sound. I found it cool.

talking about "technical terms" I really dont like when an animation ends up too fast and your player jumps back to the first frame in a millisecond! Its kind of violent. You need a time to digest what you saw... And sound makes this moment not an empty one.

Im glad to see people paying attention to this kind of details.
thanks for your very welcome crits and coments and i hope you understand my english and get the concept.

cheers.
