Smile ***_First Ever Character Model_***

Righto, this is my first ever character, i've tried (and failed) many many many times to build a human(like) character on and off for the last 2 years, but always abandoning every attempt because i didn't like it for whatever reason.

Please let me stress to you all that this model is the first character model built from scratch that i've ever been reasonably happy with to upload as a WIP. also let me stress that he is meant to resemble a human form, but NEVER to be taken as anatomically correct! for instance the muscle groups such as the pecs and the abs are similar AND THAT IS IT! they are not mean't to be exact, this is how i wanted the model to look, i'm trying to go for a "was once humanoid" bodyshape, conforming to the 2 arms, 2 legs 1x head etc.

I've decided he is an Evil Villan to a superhero, could be anyone of the Superhero's out there. But for the basis i want him for he's just plain evil ok! lol.

One problem i'm gonna have, once i've modelled the buttoks, legs, and feet, is how to make clothing for him, i've not quite decided what kind of clothing he'll have, i'm using Cinema 4D but i've not got any cloth plugins or anything like that, i've got a huge expanse of cloth shaders and textures, but not along the lines that's going to give me a cloth look. I may add some armout suit to him, he'll definatly have a weapon, and i've never made boots for the feet before either. This is all a huge learning curve for me.

Anyway, here's what i've got so far, beleive it or not this stage in the modelling process has taken me on and off 3 weeks (i've never done this before).

Modelling was started with point 2 point for the head, then the rest was box modelled.

Comments welcome, but please be gentle.

Colour Test

And finally with a bit of a colour lumiance test

Quite like the blue man look to him, i'm gonna play around with textures, i've never been a great one for texturing, i may finally blow the dust off bodypaint and do a few tests. Oh and yes he has no ears either, and he wont, the plan is for the head at least with have a spider-man esque head dressing.

Cheers

nice one buddy.the idea is very cool.as long as we r friends in this forum especially in SMC for that i will critique to see a masterpiece great 3D art of u.
a bit more work on chest.the body seems like a metal armor.pls soften hard edges.clavicles r tough;pls make a bit arc-like.and put an ear on head.
those r simple poly or nurb problems u can solve easily. the main problem is rigging. for that search the net;
is there any muscle plugin for C4D?,cuz in rigging model gets really bad and hard to solve it. Maya has got 2 own muscle plugin and 3dmax has one.muscle gets bulge and influences mesh so u get realistic rigging.perhaps u know it but i wanted to mention if u did not think about it before.(u say first character of u this is ).

regards.

Thank you very much SubCroc the body is meant to be metalic armour, as my character is half human / cyborg the clavicles are meant to be so defined as they are going to be and integral part of a mechanical back plate. As for ears, he's not going to have any, either that or i get better at modelling ears!!!

Rigging wise, it's not going to be rigged either as that's a whole new section that will take me forever to learn! i'm just concentrating on the modelling and texturing aspect of this piece.

Thanks for your comments, i will keep you updated.

Kind Regards

omm...the anatimy and the mesh flow is looking great...but it's seems to be flat at certain areas..like the chest and the stomuch...pull forward the vertexes to give the rounded form......keep it up...

Progress

and here is the shaded render. I'm seriously struggling with the bottom half of the mesh, i'm considering abandoning the totally humanoid idea, and have a mecha 4 legged lower torso, which in my opinion if i get the modelling right will look cool, and won't be so predictable and a cyborg / terminator style model.

Kind Regards

Clay Render 1a

Here's the Clay render as promised.

I won't be submitted many clay version renders, in order to have a nice clay looking render in Cinema 4D you have to use Radiosity Stochastic Sampled Illumination, for these 2 relatively small renders they took nearly an hour each! That is why i hve been posting the model with a white luminance channel render, it looks ok, and takes 20 seconds to render.

Kind Regards

wow!very nice.ppl think symetric characters as good heros and assymetic characters as bad heros.i wanna say that keep asssymetric mech-flesh guy but i suggest not to texture him as a disgusting dirty zomby like guy.and i am sure u'll fix how to add 4 legs under that torso.that is a totally work spread out of your mind and i will not make a suggestion about that.
