(Semi)-Obscure Max Tutorials
I felt like wasting time, so I made a couple tutorials. I'm sure similar ones are available on the net, but I tried to find some obscure topics to cover.
Here's one for doing real-time motion capture with standard input devices like mice or joysticks. I've never found any real use for it, but you never know... |

Lighting with meshes...
I know advanced lighting override and a few others are able to do the same thing, but I still use max 4.2. Here's an alternative (I used VRay, but I have done the same with MentalRay as well - I'm sure it works with most GI renderers). |

Here's another.
This idea doesn't have to be used with max, you could actually do it with a real camera too (with cool results). Alright, I guess that makes this more of a photoshop tutorial than a max tutorial... hope you like it anyway. For those of you with those old-fashioned red/cyan 3d glasses, this is how you make a 3d image (what geeks would call anaglyph stereoscopy) without plugins. I used photoshop, but just about any photo program like the gimp or Corel Photo-Paint should do this too. |

Your topics are quite good. Its hard to find such small but useful tips/tutorials on the net. And the second one really helped me. Thanks

Quick Reply
This is exceedingly hot stuff. Keep them coming; maybe we can put them in the tutorial gallery and/or make a front page plug.

Some quick depth-of-field with an alternative to z-depth.
With all of my outdated software, I don't have anything that can support the image formats with z-depth (I don't have combustion/after effects/etc. either). So, this is another way of doing the same thing. Less than 1 minute for the final render . |

I'm glad some people are finding these helpful.
This one is a continuation of the last tutorial. It's pretty basic, but I feel as if I left the last one unfinished. This shows how to create a focal point in the middle of objects rather than just the foreground. |
