I don't think my earlier post was as clear as it could've been. You can't measure the "value" of the NZ currency directly, only in relation to another currency (NZ/USD, NZ/AUD, NZ/SD). When I wrote NZ/SD I was referring to the conversion rate NZ-to-SD which seems to have been been fluctuating around 1 (standev .1-ish) over the last 12 months. That said, my thought was that when this number was high, it meant that it took 1.2 NZ dollars to equal a single SD dollar. Now that this number is low, it means that it takes .8 NZ dollars to equal a single SD dollar, which is good if you're a Singaporean investing in New Zealand.
That said, it's still dangerous to invest abroad because you're taking on foreign currency risk, in addition to two countries' worth of monetary policy. ![]()

All my money is tied up in shares and property. All of which, is doing sh!t.
Here's an example.... http://finance.google.com/finance?q=ASX:IMD I hold 59,500 shares of this particular company. Purchased at $0.84 a share. Should've sold last christmas like I intended to... "just wait one more month" they said!

Old_nick could check the bank website investment part, take a look their requirements and interest rate. Normally the fixed deposit account which does not have any risk has very low interest rate. So high risk ~ high profit.
I think Honki won't use Forex to earn money, using Forex needs to stare on the monitor watching numbers almost whole day. Like that no time to work. |

In order to save money, when I get married with my husband we don't even have a wedding dinner or a beautiful wedding photo album. My husband does not have a car, I ask him not to buy. Maybe we will have a formal wedding in our 50's.
I seldom go out too. Because windows shopping increase the risk of impulse buying. Maybe u will feel that the quality of my life is low, and I may lose the chance to "enjoy" the money that I've put so much effort to save. If oneday I really died before using it, I could contribute the money back to the society. |

No. I have absolutely no idea what forex is.
All my investments follow this series of events. I phone my accountant / lawyer: "Gday. I got some money I wanna blow." He says: "OK. I'll then take my 95% commission, and ensure that you and your family starve. Serves you right for being a dumb f*ck." I say: "Great, let me know when it's done." He says: "OK, I will." ------ a couple of few days later ------ He says: "Congratulations, you just bought a house - here is the address." I say: "Go f*ck yourself, c*nt. I don't need another fricken mortgage." He says: "OK, then I'll sell the house, take my 95% commission, and then put the money into shares." I say: "Fine, do that." And that, kids, is all there is too it. Easy!

EDIT: I think you should ride it out for another year. You may lose everything, but you stand to make much more. See how the company's recent investments work out. It looks like their stocks started dropping as they prepared to expand. Based on the last few years, they should be in a position to acquire new investors and get their recent acquisition in a strong position. Stick it out. I think they'll bounce back above a dollar. When they do (pick a number, $1.25, $1.05, whatever), sell. They may go higher and higher, but they tend to lose value faster than they gain value.

It's always one of those things. "Just wait for a few weeks, the market will pick up again". I'm gonna fire my accountant. Then I'm gonna molest my secretary. She done got the big nungas.

Oh Honki. Someday I want to meet you in real life so I can put your undoubtedly exquisite accent to your posts. Until then, the most I can do is talk about what I'm invested in. I've partnered with a friend of mine to do some mutual stuff and we're mostly in treasury bond ETFs, with heavy supplements in XLF (financial ETF), and QID (ultra-short NASDAQ 100 to offset some of the risk). We think financial stocks are writing down everything they own so that in 12 months they look really amazing. Oil and NatGas are also pretty low these days, so a commodity play is likely in our future.
