THE RETURN TO ABALAKIN - Part I
Almost 2 years ago i made my first greater CG Image for the GRAND SPACE OPERA CHALLENGE on www.cgsociety.com
Luckily i was the "grand price" winner in the 3D section with my image "THE BROKEN ARMISTICE OVER ABALAKIN" well.. during the last 2 years i got a lot of feedback from all over the world about this image and still. This was somehow keeping this projekt allive in my mind and i was thinking about an "sequel". "How could a giant ring surrounding a Planet look from the inside and how would a civilisation live in there?" HERE IS MY FIRST IMPRESSION... some more will follow ![]() CLICK ON IMAGE TO ENLARGE some details in 3600x1800 pixel For those who are wondering about this environment... here is my orginal work from 2004 I hope you like it and i give me massive feedback ![]() |

Well, you have not stolen your price! These are beautiful renders, so much details. Impressive.
Well done mate. ![]()

Great concept and nice acheivement. Though some more detail could be placed on the building in the background (that collective 'grey' makes it all too greeblish) the image as a whole looks awesome.

neolith :: THANK YOU! It´s a pleasure to read your kind words!
McFly:: THX MATE! inveni0 :: Thanks partner for your kind words. I have tried to make this set as flexible as possible to allow me the option to make some animations/flythrougs with it. Thats´s one reason why the tinier buildings looks a bit greeblish. I agree! During realistion of this project i had enormous trouble to create this set... This scene is seperated in 2 layers and they have together more then 6.000.000 triangles. My mashine crashed several times trying to render this set until i bought 2 more GIGS of RAM (i have now 4) and i use a BOXX worstation. Also every building is placed by hand (no greeble plugin) check out my wips. I would have loved to make the tiny buildings more detailed (they are simple blocks at the moment) but then it would be unable to render. older state... (now they are 1.200.000 triangles more in my scene ![]() |

It´s all about training yourself! The glow was made in postprocessing unsing photoshop because i dit not found any good solution at that time to render it in 3D. And i used the normal scanlight renderer for the space view. And MentaRay for the Inside Best regards! |

Not alot of people are willing to tackle the challenge of trying to create such a sense of depth and scope, you've gone about it quite well. Looks great.
