Low Poly Mini Contest #8 Subject – Movie Star/Toon Character ALL WIPS AND CONCEPTS ARE TO BE KEPT IN THIS THREAD. Guide Lines: 22 of you voted for it, now is the time for at least 22 of you to model it. We are kicking up the poly’s for this one, 3,000 tris to make a movie star/cartoon/comic character. This character can be anyone you want, from the big screen (movies), to the small screen (TV). It can even be a cartoon character, or comic book character. It could even be a video game character, it’s up to you. You will need to use your poly’s wisely. You want your character to stand out from everyone else’s. So try picking someone no one else will. This wont be easy. The specs for this competition will be like those of the past (3,000 total tris), it may sound like nothing compared to the environment comp we did, but to people that have never made one before, this is a lot. You get a month, so do not try and over due it. I want people to finish. Above all, Have Fun! Judging: 2 categories of judging will apply. 10 points possible for each: Model – How well the geometry is structured, how well it looks like the subject. Texture – How well the texture space has been used, and how well the texture is painted/applied. DUE DATE: September 2nd: a Saturday, 4 weeks and a few days from today! Idea: Find your favorite movie star/comic character/cartoon character, and model the mess out of it. But think carefully, you don’t want to go modeling the same person as someone else. If you do, people will judge the two of you, before they judge yours against the rest. Poly limit: 3,000 Tris Total. You can do whatever you want with these, just don’t get carried away and don’t exceed the 3,000 Tri Limit. Textures: (1) 1024 x 1024 texture, you can chop that up into whatever you want. I think for this one bump maps will be ok, normals are OK TO GO, but you still need to go all out in your texture. Textures can be hand-painted or you can use photographic sources. Do what you do. Final Pictures: You must provide a screen grab of your wire frame with your poly count, with the actual model and all its parts selected. Please don’t Photoshop your Poly counter with a bogus count. Make sure you post all work in progress, including final poly counts and wire frames in the work in progress thread. Also, provide at least 2 rendered pictures of your model. Even better, try to composite a nice art piece similar to the ones in the Winners' Gallery. Be careful how you do this though, simple is often better. A Final Entry Thread will be up and waiting around the end of the third week/beginning of fourth week. Don’t forget to submit your work by posting it in the final thread. Good luck everyone! BiG ToE.

This is great! I love the idea!
Actually there's someone I've always wanted to model and now, finally, it will be the perfect time to do: Bruce Lee! ps: Big Toe, on the rules it says 1028 px maps... I believe you wanted to say 1024. |

This gonna be hard! I'm gonna try for a commic character first. If that won't work i'll just try a simple cartoon character. I wish i had 3000 tri's to spend for my monster.
good luck everyone

3000 tris is not so much, people should avoid too fat/big characters, with too many props and clothes if they are going to a realistc look. Otherwise the silouet will probably get too faceted. But if you're going to a cartoon/stylized look, of course, you won't need to focus on this issue. |

I still have problems with all kinds of characters though, be it cartoon-style or realistic. Mainly because I don't know anything about anotomy. I might give this one a try either way though! :D Edit: Quick questions, would videogame heroes/characters also go under this category? Last edited by Rhauk; 04-08-2006 at 09:50 PM.. |
