2005 Acura RL WIP

Hi all,

Here is model i've been working on for a while now. Its done with 3ds max 8 and vray. Can anyone offer some input on how to get realistic qualities? I've followed tutorials, and still dont get it real nice. Its the reflections from a studio setup that i cant get right. Thanks in advance.

well usually i just go with the large light box or in your case a really big vraylight.
i usually what im looking for, as for realism in vray a good paint shader isnt hard to
simulate. you just need to understand the render system and the physical properties
of the material you are trying to achieve. your model looks great.

is to just use one large vraylight play with the parameters to get a decent render
lighting/shadow wise, then work with the materials.

also welcome to the forum

when you say i large vray light, where would you put it? flat above the model or off to the side somewhere? I have a vray shader library that i d/l from somehere, i forget, but the paint materials just dont look good. Do they have to be modified based on the size of the scene? Thanks for the input

here is an update based on 1 vray light above the car. Before i had 2 planes that had vray light material. It looks pretty good at 800x600. But how can i get it to be sharper? it looks fuzzy, and not great reflections on the side and on the rim needs to look more realistic. Any tips on how to get it better? As you can see it to 1 hour to render. is that normal for something like this? I can list the settings, but there are so many is there one in particluar that i should focus on? Thanks in advance

That looks real good, can you share your settings? you have a real nice chrome effect too. How long was the render? my last image posted seemed to take a real long time for the quality i got

Also how do you get your pictures to show in the post? On mine the link only shows. Thanks again!!!

Great model!

The renders I think were better without all the reflective properties though of the new material. The first lot would have been alot more realisitc with a bit more reflection on them, but not that much.

Very nice though

here is an update. I did some large images, just to see how they would look. I'd like opinions on these two. The bigger took over 2 hours to render. does that seem too long. Could i have a vray setting that might be to high that will increase render times and not get great results? I'd still like to get this looking as realistic as possible. Any ideas? Thanks in adavance!

The blue version is just a reflective material, and the silver is a car paint shader i found.

Well the paint shader is more realistic in the grey, since it has a fall off which is realistic on a car.

The downside I think is the studio setup you have going, which isn't really working

I realy think though you should get the modelling done first before testing everything I'm like that...

The wheels I think put me off too, but I'm sure those can easily be fixed.

A bit of work though, and who knows?

I'm kind of new to Vray, but I would definietly set the Irradience Map to Low for example which may speed up times

Something you could try is to put an environment map set to Sphere in the renderer, and use that for the reflection, instead of a white box with a light material that you may be using now.

Then just get a Vray Light, and place that in the scene instead.

Its worth a try, and may give an even more realistic look.

Finish those lights though, eh?

yeah the lights are giving me a hard time....so i'm experimenting with renders so a little bit.

As far as the studio, what do u think i can change? and you suggest an environment map set to Sphere in the renderer. what are u refering too there?
The rims are the stock rims although i made them chrome instead of the painted silver that they are in the real car. perhaps i'll do it the other way and see what that looks like
