sss in vray
hi people,
been wanting to test and learn sss in vray, but not sure if there is, I have caught a couple of "fake sss" tutorials for v ray, but results are always so grainy and look like wax, isntead of skin (what I am trying to achieve) any help? |

vray can render sss, but in order to get rid of the grainy look, you need to use a lot of samples which means huge rendering times.
i made a candle and it came out pretty grainy even though it rendered for 14h. it's very tedious as the process of trial and error, which for vray sss is the only way to learn, is very slow due to the long rendering times. http://www.mache.ro/desene/3d/final.jpg (my candle) i can send you the max file if you want. just let me know p.s. the newer versions of vray (don't know which one is the first) have a fake sss vray map, which i guess simulates sss without the huge rendering times. it is still slow though.

you can always render the samples from a viewpoint, save it and re-use the map so it saves on rendering time with every change you make to your scene.
