WIP First Digital Painting
I just bought a Wacom Graphire and i'm just getting used to it but here is my first try at something. I'm also using Corel Painter for the first time. I thought i'd check it out cuz so many is talking about it. So far i like it. The problem is that i can't find a simple set of brushes that i like. There is so many. Maby you can give me some tips. Basicly i need help with everything, so anything will help. Cheers

looks good sofar but i would add more shadow to his nose area because a face doesnt really have much geometry except its shape. Rest is the work of shadows. they split your face up
And try some harder brushers or less smudge on the hair. 3d total has some great tuts about how to draw hair would suggest to take a look |

So far the hair is just rough colors. I havent even begun to work on it. I'm going to work more with tha shadows tonight. Maby starting with the hair and some higlights. My problem is that i have never worked with color this way. When i draw IRL I only use pencils. So the use of colors is new to me and very hard. Finding a good pallet and so on. In the beginning everything seems good but now i think it's a bit too colorful.

Update!
The face is still a bit gray and i'm coming to that later. Or soon
. I can't focus on one area at the time. I paint a little on the hat and then focus on the mouth and so forth. I just resized my canvas to a bit more detail frendly size. So i guess i'll start with that soon. Dont be afraid to point out stuff that looks weird and such, or just say hi. I've been on this forum for some time but i don't know any of you guyes. |

Your original sketch of the joker guy looked really nice, but it seems after you colored it.. It got blurry? Maybe bad choices for skin color too. Something you could try maybe doing is going back over the hair with either highlights or shadows to try and get them to look a bit more like hair than just a smear of paint. Same for the rest more or less.. I'd just go for clear with it, maybe check out the hair tutorial on the main site I think it is? Theres like 5 of them. The eye tutorial there is pretty neat as well.
Overall though, its very good for your first digital painting. (second I guess now?) I can see you improving easily over time. ^^ |

You have to use harder brushes and keep the soft ones for touch ups. But I do like your sketches and I'll be waiting for your next posts.
