animation help needed

Hi there,

I'm looking for an easy way (other than bones) to animate a large string made up out of tubes. At the end will be a futuristic television, so the string would function as tail of some kind, wooshing about. Now, as I said I made an animation using bones. But those ****ers are getting on my nerves, so if anyone has got another bright idea, please let me know.
I'm using cinema by the way.

Cheers
