Quick Reply:
one quick suggestion would be to render the image as a .tiff file this will allow you to designate a specific DPI setting for the image. Im not sure which version of max you are using but starting in max 6 and I believe it continued on there is a Print Size Wizard. This lets you specify a bunch of render-to-print settings. To get there go to Rendering then to Print Size Wizard, and a dialog box should come up with options. Hopefully that helps! |

real easy way to figure it out.
Ready: figure out what size you want to print at. lets say 8 x 10 next, figure out what dpi you want, I do 300 dpi now multiply 8 x 10 with 300dpi, you get 2400 x 3000. You type that number in the the render size in max, then render it out. It will look like a normal size, but it will take longer to do. Then when you open the image in another program, you will see much more detail. If you do 600 dpi you get 4800 x 6000 at 8 x 10. So on and so forth. |
