Red face Ipod destruction (Ipod lovers, keep out)

Hey, I've decided to post this scene which I made about 8 months ago now.

Ipod Lovers should keep out Don't hate meeeee...

about:

It was made for a university assignment, where we had to create any scene. I decided to make one on Ipod destruction, I called Ipod Dump. Based on my hating Ipods so much, hehe.

Basically, they are falling down a chute, going down a conveyor and falling into a crusher type machine at the end.

TEXTURE ERROR:

I know there is a texturing error in the clump of Ipods in the centre, but try to ignore that. That was me starting off with a sphere and morphing it... you'll know why I rushed that if you keep reading. (If I knew about Normal maps at this point. I may have used it)

DEADLINE:

But all this was made in 1 night including modelling/texturing/rendering! Since it had to be in the next day, and I worked all night on it!

DETAILS:

It was made in Max 7, with Scanline, and Light Tracer (If I made it again, Vray would be the choice)

I built the Ipod Mini, Ipod, and Ipod Shuffle I believe and mixed and matched them within the scene. The texture for the clump was done by making a new max scene, loading loads in, and rendering out as a texture.

It was made a while ago, and in a short amount of time, but I quite like how it came out

I hope you like it too:

lol

Man i love it!!!! IPODs are just stupid!!! long live the ipod destruction

Wow i liked very much the scene composition ( the way you divide the image into 3 sections i think.... the ipods entering, the transportation chain and finally the sweet destruction ) i would love to see some ipod pieces flying from the machine....

That's a brilliant idea, but if you don't like ipods there is no need to destroy them, you can give them all to me Although ipods have the stupidest possible design for an mp3 player Very original

Pablo Ferro, Zoooz90, AKA_Slayer, neolith, thanks alot

I guess I could work on it some more, but its not at the top of my priorities right now. If I did work on the scene more, I'd probably start from scratch, bringing in new things I've learnt like Displacement, Vray, etc.

i don't know how I came up with the idea actually. But it took a while. The reason I only had a night to do it, was because I always leave things until last minute, and before then, I was running through loads of ideas of what I could do.

I got a good mark for it, but was limited because the tutors computer couldn't render the scene...hmm...

I don't like Ipods though what so ever. To me they are fashion accessories, and that only.

Audio players worth considering are, well I have to mention Iaudio. They are simply amazing! Excellent audio quality/features, etc, etc, etc.

Then comes Creative, but they are starting to drift off now I think, trying to compete.

Audio quality is something Ipods don't win with, and is the main reason why I don't like them. No custom EQ? No added bass enhancement features? (Something Iaudio players are great for). I could go on and on.

I'd make "real" 3D Ipods sticking out of the pile to make it look more realistic.
Otherwise good work

thats a good one. i have a creative muvo 512 myself, i even rendered and modelled it, (its somewhere in the inorganic section) but the max scene got corrupted

since this is something u did in one night, no crits. i like the red light thingy

maybe ur next scene should be where the ipods are being recycled to make different brands of audio players lol

Thanks you 3

Actually, TheCheshireCat, you wouldn't believe what I was thinking of doing at first, before I realised it'd be almost impossible.
I was planning on actually building loads up into that shape, haha, but when I started hitting the 1 million polygon range, and my video card started to stutter, I thought...lets not.
A Displacement map probably would have worked wonders though.

Yeah, Creatives are good. I have a Zen Vision M, which I also modelled and renderered. I need to do that again actually with my new found modelling skills since then
I believe I saw your Muvu 512! You modelled a battery with it, correct?

I like your idea about the ipods being recycled to make different brands

That new Iaudio player is rather tasty, and deserved to be modelled also, if you've not heard of them, check here:

http://www.cowonglobal.com/

The Iaudio 6 its called. because the site runs from one link, I can't send you a direct one to it. Its in HDD MP3 players.

Don't you find though that after you've done all the modelling/lighting and you've rendered a few shots out, that compositions like these then go to waste,so whats the point doing it? i always think that. Its rather horrid really, considering I like to model anything (if I can pull it off)

I was thinking you could add 3-10 real ones sticking out in strategic locations still keeping the original pile. Of course its only an idea and this is finished work, not expecting you to implement it or anything, just explaining my thoughts.

By the way I really like your idea of rendering a mass of the same object and saving it as a texture, I wanted to make a gold pile ones and didn't know how to do it.
