Music Software
Music Software Discussion Thread!
This is meant to be a list of softwares free and otherwise that are used to make music on the PC. I have no idea which of these are best so discussion would be great! Feel free to add any you like and lampoon any that aren't up to standard. Commercial Software Adobe Audition http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/in...udition&loc=en Record, mix, edit, and master digital audio files with powerful tools that bring flexibility and control to your desktop studio. Easily create music, produce radio spots, and restore imperfect recordings. Reason 3.0 http://www.maudio.co.uk/products/en_...son3-main.html Top Features: Self-contained, infinitely expandable workstation virtual synths, samplers, loop players, mixers, effects, sequencers, sound library and more offers creative options unavailable in hardware new sounds, instrument combis and mastering suite FL Studio http://www.flstudio.com/ FruityLoops is a tool for making drum loops or songs with internal mixing and MIDI support. The resulting loops can be exported to a MIDI file or rendered to a WAV file to be used in sequencers or trackers, but its extended playlist allows you to create full songs completely within the program. FruityLoops also integrates a full bassline synth engine, called the TS404. Protools http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm? I hear this one is used by the pros, in the music industry. Takes some time to figure out the interface, but after that, your all good. Acoustica http://www.acoustica.com/ For mixing, file formats and other music needs. Free Software Winamp www.winamp.com It plays music. Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ Audacity is a popular open source, multi-platform audio editor that provides unlimited tracks, plug-in effects, and undo. Acid(sound forge) http://www.acidplanet.com/ easy to use, comes with free loops and everything. Good free time waster. Also, you can burn your tracks straigh to disc within the program. Adjust volume, pitch and tempo. Great for screwing and chopping, and prank phone calls. Renoise http://www.renoise.com/ Music Tracker. The free version of Renoise is fully functional, only "render to wav" and ASIO support are disabled. Audiomulch http://www.audiomulch.com/ Self contained music studio with vst plugin support. Just released from beta.

Renoise.
The best tracker available, and its free basically. You just get nagged to buy the full version, which allows you to save as MP3's and use ASIO support of audio. If you've ever heard of MOD's, etc of the old Amiga days, this is how they were basically made. But this is a much more advanced program capable of producing some very good commerical music. All you need is the program, a keyboard (MIDI or just a standard QWERTY keyboard) and some VSTi or wave sound effects. Both which can be found freely around the web to create some fantastic compositions. My new albums being produced using it (personal album that is), and I have made one full track so far using it. I'll try and post it in the music section ![]() http://www.renoise.com/ I prefer this way of making music, than traditional types like Calkwalk and the like.

Defaultalias, that program seems interesting.
You should try out Renoise you know as well ![]() Its great when you understand it, because you can create compositions using experiementation really easily..well not easily. You do need talent, but its easy to come up with stuff once you have all those sounds in your PC, etc, isnt it?

I'd post mine if I could. But I need room to host it.

Theese are programs i recomend
Guitar Pro 5 - Very good tablature/note's program, shows you exactly how to play on both guitar and piano, good for songwriting/massive selection between instruments, i think it even has bas and drum tablatures(never tried those out) you can even accompany yourself! im tellin ya! Its awsome, here is the link http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php - there is a free trial. Steinberg Nuendo Awsome program for recording, mixing, etc. I dont have it yet becouse i dont have a midi keyboard and there are lots of midi things. I recommend this alot to!. Specially check out the vst instrument feature if you have a midi keyboard. BTW its kindoff difficult to use at the begining ,but no problemo! Thats what a manual is for! xD Steinberg nuendo - http://www.steinberg.net/24_1.html Dont know if it has a trial

Hmm... I've never been a fan of the Calkwalk style MIDI view.
