Video Margraf

Hi everybody!

Today we finished the Margraf video production.

We used a 10 PCs renderfarm (2GB ram every machine), 3ds Max 8 for modelling and animation and finalRender Stage-1 for the rendering process. The animation is entirely calculated with GI (included moving objects).

Rendertime per frame: 6 minutes (average included GI solution)

Have a nice vision!

very cool renderings. nice textures and the cloth simulation was good as well.

but finally all i see is a simple motionride (with sometimes ugly cameramoves and shakes) through some boxes.

I am so sorry you see those great cameras movements "ugly, shaked as simple motionride"!!!

It's a personal matter of what everybody thinks about a film, art, etc....

Thanks for your comments!

Dionisio.. I think this is great, models look good, render, textures and lighting are excellent! However the camera shakes are killing it for me... I do like them, they help hide the CG fluid feel, but in this case they are over done, and when your flying around the city the camera should not be shaking like this... I think they work well when at eye level, they give a feel that the camera is being hand held, that is real..
3 ***'s because of those shakes... I think this could be front page worty, if some of these things were addressed

The whole things feels very 'small'. I didn't notice camera shakes. I didn't watch the whole thing cause I got bored. The buildings have no feeling of life. The textures are bland (except for a few that were paid attention to).

Try again!

I found it to be quite a cool demonstration of your lighting/rendering/cloth simulation/architecture skills I did find the camera shakes to be a bit over done, but of course it's your preference in terms of trying to achieve a specific style.

Good work overall!

Well, I am so sorry all you guys found the camera shakes not a good effect. We like it here, ours client and many other users too...

We can't satisfied everybody!!! It's not a Holywwood production and the budget was limited. So it's already a miracle we produced such a video.

We know also that the city is not extrememly detail but the target was different than produce Spiderman's remake...

Thanks again,

Just out of curiosity, for what did the client need a 3 minute fly-through of a cloth in a city?

I thought it looked pretty good and I don't mind the fact that city is way too clean, also there was nothing wrong with the audio in my humble opinion. Only problem I had was that the opening credits and some other shots dragged on too long and so I did become a little bored, other than that it was good.

I thought it was excellent! Architectural themes don't tend to rank highly here, but it was better than 80% of the work I see here. You guys should be proud. Also, I'd like to be able to download it. It was choppy on my computer.

I think this is very well done. I do usually like camera shake. It will add a bit of realism but the problem for me on this one is the amount and the lack of reason. What I mean by that is if you are panning a camera across an object it might overshoot the object by a small bit and then come back on track. The shake should be subtle unless there is a large event like an explosion or a fast moving object in front of the camera. Also if the camera shakes, there will be a bit of camera blur.
