so, whats wierd? I think you just need to add a MESHSMOOTH to it..or increase the amount of divisions you have on your spline, (keep adding more splines and shaping more)

yeah, i'm having major difficulties using the surface tools right now. but luckly for you there are enough tutorials on modeling spline-based heads on the net.
I'm trying to make a tugboat (see my thread in this forum) but without to much succes

uh..I knew it was a head..what the problem?

ok, Well I am also learning Splining, but then I have been trying it for like a year now, so I think I am ok.

--First off you may want to start over.
--You want to start with the eyes. When splining they usually consisit of 3 spline rings. (make sure to keep the number or vertices the same on each ring, as you will connecting them later.)
--Then you want to connect them all and look at it
--Take a break
-- Then you will want to move up the head like up the the hair line.
-- connect up the points from your eye to the head ones.
-- Then start working on your nose, (this part sucks!)
-- Connect those
-- THen move down to the mouth, make it and then start connecting the NOSE to the mouth
-- You will then what to make a few splines connecting the eye to the mouth, and crossing those connections wiht the vertices on the side of the nose, (so you will have the 4 sided poly everywhere, with a few division to soften it up)
-- Then you will just work to the top and back of the head. You will connect it all up
-- Make an ear...Uh cant help ya there
-- Connect the ear.
-- Then you will want to add details.

I know it was a ultra-crude tutorial, but thats how you should work at it, (personally I think) you could keep going with your no problem. I just think starting with the eye and then the rest is easier.

So the SOFTEN the model..You just needs more crossections. By that I mean instead of like (hope it works without a pic)

you would want

hope you understnad that, if you dont I will post a pic.
After you get a lot of detailing and smoothing on the RAW model, then you want to add a meshsmooth modifier and up the interations to 2. Looks good dont it?

hope it helps. cheers.

are you talking about the million of vertices showing? if so..uh just deselect the model...why would you want to work with it like that? Let me ask you this:
Did you build you spline model, then ADD an EDIT MESH MODIFER?
if so, thats your problem, delete that, there is no need to work with that. You SPLINE TOOL should have added a LINE modifier and thats were you adjust you spline points. and vertices.
You then add a SURFACE MODIFER, and then A MESHSMOOTH.

OK I FOUND OUT YOUR PROBLEM! You want it smoothed right?

in your LINE MODIER, click VERTICES and then SELECT THEM ALL! and right click and click SMOOTH, all your points and lines with have a nice curve to them, some adjusting will be needed. and there you have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
