affect pivot only?
using the affect pivot only button, i move ONLY the pivot point of any given object. fantastic! then, i try to move it, using the new pivot point. and it moves accordingly! brilliant!! then, i try to rotate it - say something simple, a door moving on its hinges. when i try to do that, the pivot reverts back to the center. huh? wazzit?
please show me what an idiot i was, by not hitting the tab button or something. thanks, K |

I have just created a box, moved the pivot, and it rotates fine. Are you sure you have only one obj selected, or are you working with a group?
Workaround: Create a dummy where you need the pivot to be. Link the initial obj/group to said dummy. Select the dummy and rotate. |

..... i don't know if it has something to do with it, but i'm working with a box that has a edit mesh modifier. when i create a simple box it does work. and i tried both with group and a single object (which shouldn't make any difference) and both didn't work.

I know exactly hat you mean...
This has ahppened to me in the past, and it's very frustrating. Most of the time I could fix it by selecting the rotate tool, and if it doesnt work properly i click the "affect pivot" button on and off, and this would sometimes make it work... Other than that I dunno... |

Summing's freaky.
I created a box, aplied edit mesh, made it look like a door, moved the pivot, and it rotates perfectly. I have had problems before with the moved pivot not taking effect. What I did was to go back to the "modify" menu. It works then. |

Having tried it, I had exactly the same problem Lilly. I then tried each of the remedys posted here and the one the worked for me was making sure that the Modify panel was selected.
I know that doesn't give you any more ideas but at least that's something that's worked twice! Ben |

and naturally, after having given up, i tried the suggestions yet again, flipping between modify/create/hierarchy panels like mad, Max smiled at me, and wondered what the problem was, while showing me that the rotate pivot was where i wanted all the time.
figures. thanks all! K |
