Yet another "bored at work" render,....

I have express written permission from the original designer to recreate this car so no one jump down my neck please lol. Started with a test render image from the original designer and I poly modeled it using 3DSMAX 8. I know the back ground is splotchy but it was just a quick "im bored so I'll render it" render. haha. tell me what you think so far.

I really dislike the design, the car lacks detail and it looks like the car was just squished in a vice.

the modeling is kinda messy... though the material and render is not as bad...

for example the hood looks like it's just laying on top of the car... not like it's actually par of it...

you should show us a wireframe

the original design is made so the hood sits like that. This is from the original thread and are done by the owner:

As you can see, my hood is modeled exactly the same. That picture is a WIP image he posted up which I found useful to use as blueprints,... hence the lack of detail in the car istelf. I will post up some clay renders for you all as well as a wire render a little later.

Well...your model sure looks like the references but in both cases I don't like the design as a whole...I don't think it's a very attractive car...But well that's my opinion and maybe it becomes more attractive in the future...

Good Luck

Thanks. So far the only change I have made in the design is the rear fenders. on the original the front wheels base is wider than the rear,.. I adjusted the rear fenders to allow for the rear wheels to line up as they should. This allowed me to but on wider rear tires as well as slightly larger wheels (20's in front, 22's in rear). I am able to keep the wheels looking about the same size by allowing the rear tire to tuck up into the fender well slightly. That way it does not have the staggered appearance that you normally get with wheel combinations like this.

Question for you guys,.... and gals if there are any,...

I am working on the interior and I want it to have black carpet and black leather with accents of red leather and brushed aluminum,... I am having trouble making the leather and carpet materials. Do any of you know any good tutorials for these materials? Also, if you have links to material libraries with good leather/carpets in them it would be much appreciated. I want to learn how to make these on my own, but also having the spare libraries is always a plus. Thanks to anyone who helps.

Oh,... and look for a drastic body change sometime soon,.. possibly tonight if I get the interior done.

If your using vray (maybe you mentioned it don't know) 3dtotal had a link to a vray materials site...on there there's a good leather material...

Here's the site:

http://www.vray-materials.de/

And here's (one of them) a leather material (bump map included)...

http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php?mat=54

You should check it out, register, and then you're able to download...they have fantastic materials there...

What to think of this one whaha:

http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php?mat=469

Greets and looking forward to see the updates

Update: new materials, render settings, roof, and beginnings of an interior with carpet and leather materials. I will post a wire and clay with different angles tonight.

and to break up the monotony of the thread,.. a quick render of a coffee mug,... 10 minutes to make the mug, 15 minutes for materials from my library, and 9.25 minutes to render. BTW, I am switching back and forth from home PC to work PC,.. hence the conflicting processors and render times.
